Received 11/16/1967. Dr. Wernher von Braun, one of the fathers of rocket science, probably second to Robert H. Goddard in that respect.
I tried writing a small post that addresses the fact that his life — especially before he came to the US — is rather controversial without getting caught up in it, but I don’t think that is truly possible. If you want to know more, just look him up in Wikipedia.
In a completely different vein, here is a humorous take on what it’s like to meet a brain surgeon or rocket scientist at a party.
UPDATE: For some reason this single post has become a spam magnet so i turned off further commenting.
A NICE AUTOGRAPH IS IT FOR SALE? OR TRADE OF THE GERMAN HIGH COMMAND DURING W W II?
Hi Richie. Thanks. We are holding on to the entire collection for now.
Hate to tell you that signature was done by autopen, not in his hand.
Yeah, you seem really broken up by it.
But you might be right. I know a lot of NASA and space program people used them. It does look like some autopen samples of his I found on the web, but he also had one of the more consistent autographs in his real hand.
I also had meant to add an autopen disclaimer to the website. I thought I had already done so this is a useful reminder to add it this weekend.
Thankfulness to my father who told me concerning this web site, this weblog is truly
awesome.
